SCROLL
The aim of the project is to not create another building in the park, but blend museum and
park, creating both indoor and outdoor public spaces for not only museum guests, but for
park visitors and residents of local community.
Located opposite to Tribowl across the river, museum represent kind of inverted silhouette
and creates a spatial duet with close neighbor.
Process of writing is about movement, rhythm, continuity. Building envelope brings our
ephemeral associations into fusion and establish strong contextual connection with the
surroundings through its main elements:
- “Scroll” – museum identity. "Scroll" twist and bend, while wrapping around functions,
arranged in rational way in two lapidary extruded volumes (one is exhibition, another is
education&research). It reacts on surroundings, creating folds. Spectacular spaces in
between are used for circulation. “Scroll” divides the volumes, but in the same time unites
them into one silhouette.
- Vertical gardens, green amphitheaters – landscape and public space. By creating an
artificial terrain, we realize the aim of continuous, uninterrupted park, a unique
environment, which establish a strong connection between nature and museum. Green
slopes allow to 100% of park public space to remain.
- Amphitheaters – summer theaters and meeting points. Amphitheaters, that carved out
in front of the entrances are the meeting place, and the place to share impression. It is
also a place, where guides make an opening speech for group excursions. In summer,
they used as open-air theatres, open lectoriums and terrace of the cafe.
Walking in natural conditions in park, countryside, we constantly feel changing of terrain: up
the hill, down the hill, climb the mountain, hide in grotto, sit on slope enjoying the views.
Large amount of incline surfaces, which are part of building envelope create rich, unusual
spatial experience along with encouraging processes of interaction between the visitors,
between exhibits and visitors in various ways.
Main direction of exploring museum is spiral movement upwards to the light. As a
culmination, visitors take steps and arrive on outdoor viewing platform.
